Urban and Community Forestry Grants

The Nevada Division of Forestry is now accepting applications for the Urban & Community Forestry Grant Program.

The Urban and Community Forestry Program supports the planning and management of healthy trees and forests in the communities where we live, work, learn, and play.

Under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), there funding available from the USDA Forest Service for proposals promoting urban forestry goals, such as workforce development, community tree care, and sustainable management of urban canopies. Applicants can submit proposals for Program Development and Urban Tree Canopy Management Projects or Planting and Education Projects.

Grants ranging from $1,000 to $200,000.

EPA Clean School Bus Program Rebate Funding Opportunity

Calling all school districts! This rebate program is in the final quarter - DUE January 9, 2025!

With funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the EPA Clean School Bus Program provides $5 billion over five years (FY 2022-2026) to replace existing school buses with zero-emission and clean school buses. https://www.epa.gov/cleanschoolbus/clean-school-bus-program-rebates#overview

AARP Purpose Prize

The AARP® Purpose Prize® award is a national award in the United States that celebrates people 50 and older who are using their life experience to make a difference. Through the Purpose Prize award, AARP celebrates the creativity, innovation, and inspiration that life experience brings. Applicants must have started the work at age 40 or older, and the work should be taking place at the time of the application. Applicant’s Founded Non-Profit must be mission-driven and be able to show the social impact of its work. Grants range from $10,000 to $50,000.

Relevant program areas include:

  • Intergenerational work (opportunities for different generations to come together to share their experience, knowledge, and skills)

  • Rethinking the workplace (jobs, work environments, alternative approaches)

  • Caregiving and caregiver resources (support for vulnerable populations and the people who care for them)

  • Public health (protecting and improving the health of people and their communities by addressing healthy lifestyles, nutrition, disease prevention, mental health, addiction, maternal health, etc.)

  • Financial health (financial stability, resilience, economic opportunity, etc.)

  • Hunger (food insecurity, waste, distribution, etc.)

  • Affordable housing (safe, well-managed, and affordable housing and services)

  • Social connections (reducing isolation among vulnerable community members)

  • Civic engagement and community development (helping people be active participants in building and strengthening their communities)

  • Diversity, equity and inclusion (improving the representation, fair treatment and experiences of underserved populations)

  • Environmental issues (combatting the challenges facing the planet)

  • Education (school- or community-based programs that help children attain educational goals)

  • Youth development (programs that are not school-based that serve the needs of vulnerable children and teens)

  • Arts and culture (using art and culture as tools to engage communities in positive change)

  • Peace and security rights (establishing or preserving justice and equality by peaceful means)

  • Homelessness (addressing the needs of the homeless population)

  • Veterans (providing services for veterans, advocating for veterans' rights, empowering veterans)

  • Animal protection (ensuring animal welfare, promoting animal companionship with vulnerable populations)

Walmart - Local Community Grants

Walmart - Local Community Grants

Local community grants range from a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $5,000.

  • Eligible nonprofit organizations must operate on the local level (or be an affiliate/chapter of a larger organization that operates locally) and directly benefit the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding.

  • Grant applications for the calendar year will be accepted on a quarterly basis. Deadlines for submissions are as follows:

    • Quarter 1: Feb 1 – April 15

    • Quarter 2: May 1 – July 15

    • Quarter 3: August 1 – October 15

    • Quarter 4: November 1 – December 31

  • Applications may be submitted at any time during each quarter funding cycle. All applications will be reviewed prior to the next funding cycle.

  • There are eight (8) areas of funding for which an organization can apply. Please review the areas listed below to ensure your organization’s goals fall within one of these areas.

    • Community and Economic Development: Improving local communities for the benefit of low-income individuals and families in the local service area.

    • Diversity and Inclusion: Fostering the building of relationships and understanding among diverse groups in the local service area.

    • Education: Providing afterschool enrichment, tutoring or vocational training for low-income individuals and families in the local service area.

    • Environmental Sustainability: Preventing waste, increasing recycling, or supporting other programs that work to improve the environment in the local service area.

    • Health and Human Service: Providing medical screening, treatment, social services, or shelters for low-income individuals and families in the local service area.

    • Hunger Relief and Healthy Eating: Providing Federal or charitable meals/snacks for low-income individuals and families in the local service area.

    • Public Safety: Supporting public safety programs through training programs or equipment in the local service area.

    • Quality of Life: Improving access to recreation, arts or cultural experiences for low-income individuals and families in the local service area.
